Why visit an endodontist? Endodontists have advanced surgical and nonsurgical skills that make them uniquely qualified to treat routine as well as complex cases. The following is a partial list of some of the kinds of complications an endodontist may encounter: In examples where x-rays are provided, the left-hand image is the "before" and the right-hand image is the "after. Hovering your mouse over the "after" image will highlight the part of the tooth involved in the procedure. Very Curved Canals - Curved canals make complete access to the root canal more challenging. Very calcified canals - Calcium deposits make canals more difficult to identify. (No image available) Unusual Anatomical Complications - Some teeth have unusual anatomy, such as multiple canals. Retreatment - Procedural accidents, missed roots or an otherwise inadequately treated original cases may result in the need for retreatment. Differential Diagnosis of Tooth Pain - Tooth pain can be difficult to diagnose without appropriate equipment and experience.
